Tony Gilbert

Originally from Sheffield in the North of England Tony Gilbert has an international reputation as a musician, composer and orchestrator. Studying the piano from the age of seven, Tony was always going to follow in the footsteps of an illustrious musical family. His grandfather ran a society orchestra performing at Chatsworth House for the Duke of Devonshire and other nobility whilst Tony's father was amongst the highest rated saxophonists in the world being a founder member and lead saxophonist for the Ted Heath Orchestra.

Tony's career began in earnest after a 3 year stint in the band of HM Coldstream Guards after switching to trombone at the age of fifteen. High accolades followed with engagements in London's West End Theatre Orchestras and caberet work backing Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Engelburt Humperdinck. Tony toured with many big names in the 1960s including Little Richard and The Walker Brothers. He joined the touring band for Roy Orbison in 1967, an engagement which took him to Australia where he now lives.

Tony has worked consistantly up to the present day as a Trombonist, Bassist, Pianist and Musical Arranger for many high ranking performers in the entertainment industry, and has had a strong affiliation with all aspects of dance music because of his involvement with the Eric Winstone and Edmundo Ross Orchestras, together with a long stint on both the Mecca and Top Rank ballroom circuits.

Tony arranges and plays all instruments on his recordings, employing all of his experience as a professional session musician, and produces a wonderful and authentic sound whether it's a rock and roll group, pop group, dance band or dance orchestra. His recordings are a must for all lovers of music and dancing!
